Tricks for the 2 times table

Just double it

2 × 7 is the same as 7 + 7 = 14. Doubles are among the first facts children remember, so this table grows from something they know.

Always even

Every answer ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. If an answer ends in an odd digit, it can’t be in the 2 times table.

Count in 2s

2, 4, 6, 8, 10… Counting pairs of socks, shoes or eyes makes skip counting feel natural.

Tricky facts to watch

2 × 7 = 14, 2 × 9 = 18 and 2 × 12 = 24 usually take the longest. Link them to doubles: 7 + 7 = 14, 9 + 9 = 18 and 12 + 12 = 24.
